A picnic with family or friends is an ideal way to enjoy nature and relax in this time of flower blossoms. In Hangzhou, the "Heaven on Earth," there are some glorious places to have a picnic.
Lying under the sunshine, with the West Lake before you and greenery around, you will surely feel that a picnic in this setting is like a feast in heaven.
Gushan Park
Gushan, the Solitary Hill, stands in the north of the West Lake. It's called "solitary" because it stands alone by the lake.
The 38-meter-high hill is the lowest of the hills around the lake but it's also on the biggest island in the lake.
At the foot of the southern hill is Gushan Park, originally Zhongshan Park.
Between the lake and the hill, Gushan Park enjoys a unique setting. Climbing to the top of the hill, you can see the West Lake just around the hill and around you, while down the hill there are large expanses of lawn. Children can fly with kites and enjoy picnics with their parents in this attractive park.
Pick a good day, take some good food and good friends, pitch a tent and enjoy life - it's a paradise for those who live in the concrete jungle.
Taiziwan Park
At the foot of Nanping Hill, Taiziwan Park was the first wedding park in Hangzhou.
A canal from the West Lake's water diversion project runs through the park forming attractions like the Feicui Garden, the Yulu Pool and the Taiji Lawn.
In spring, the flowers are at their most beautiful, and Taiziwan Park is well-known for its tulips and sakura, which symbolize beauty and everlasting love. It's a perfect place for young couples to capture their wedding images.
But for young lovers who haven't married yet, a picnic there can offer a sublime experience.
Very different to Gushan Park, a picnic in Taiziwan is a journey through flowers. While enjoying your delicious food, you can be diverted by the delicate fragrances and colors of this natural world.
The park is now connected to the wireless network, which means that although you're in the "paradise," you can stay connected with the outside world.
Qu Courtyard
Qu Courtyard, known as Qu Yuan Feng He ("The Lotus of Qu Courtyard"), is one of the top 10 West Lake attractions. It's on Lingyin Road, just beside the Hongchun Bridge and near the Su Causeway.
It dates from the Song Dynasty (960-1279) and was named by Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).
Since 1980, it has been reconstructed and expanded several times and now spreads over 28.3 hectares.
It's a good place for picnics not far away from the city center. At the Milin Vacation Village of West Lake in the park, there are several wooden cabins which offer visitors tents, hammocks and cookers for rent.
Visitors only need to bring some meat, fish and vegetables and a rich feast is just at hand. And cooking outside is a great antidote to too many supermarket meals.
Xixi Wetland Park
The Xixi Wetland Park is "the lungs of Hangzhou," and is located to the west of Hangzhou City, 5 kilometers from the West Lake.
It's the only national wetland park that has urban, rural and cultural wetlands together. It covers about 10.08 square kilometers and about a third is open to the public.
The park focuses on the protection of the environment. There are lawns for visitors to relax on. Going for a spring walk in Xixi has become a tradition for Hangzhou citizens.
In spring, the water flows like a green silk ribbon and the flowers bloom like flames. Here, no matter whether you're walking on the grass, breathing fresh air or having a picnic, it's a garden of pleasure indeed.
