NINE athletes from Hangzhou won three gold medals, four silvers and three bronzes at the London 2012 Paralympic Games - the city's best medal count ever at the event.

Li Zhangyu from Lin'an won the first gold medal on August 30, breaking the 1-kilometer men's cycling world record of 1 minute and 5.21 seconds.

The following day, China made history by lifting its Paralympic gold count to 95, beating the record of 89 set in Beijing 2008. The record-breaking 95th gold medal was clinched by Xue Lei in the men's 100-meter-T11 final. Xue, 24, crossed the finish line in 11.17 seconds.
