Sunny outlook
A Xiaoshan District resident began generating electricity with solar panels mounted on the roof of his apartment building recently.
Tong Guanping, who lives in the Xintang Community, is the first Hangzhou resident to install a photovoltaic system. The 43-square-meter setup can generate 15-20 kilowatt hours of electricity a day.
"Instead of paying electricity bills, he can make money from the solar power system," Tong's neighbor said.
However, the system cost Tong 30,000 yuan to install and it will take at least 15 years to break even and start delivering a profit.
This did not perturb the solar energy enthusiast though.
"I'm a photovoltaic fan and don't expect to make money with that system," Tong said.
