Swipe rail service
PASSENGERS traveling between Hangzhou and Shanghai or Nanjing by high-speed trains can board trains simply by swiping a card similar to a Metro card, starting from tomorrow.
The card, jointly issued by the China Railway Corp and the Bank of China, is available at major stations on the Hangzhou-Shanghai and Hangzhou-Nanjing railways.
The card holder can use it to board a high-speed train and take a seat in a designated carriage. If the carriage is full, they can take an available seat elsewhere or wait for the next train.
Passengers can buy the card with their ID card at Gate 1 of Hangzhou Railway Station from 8am to 5pm. Gold card holders can take first-class seats while silver card holders can take second-class seats only.
Users must put at least 300 yuan (US$48) on the card.
