Teacher hero

A teacher from Hangzhou Dongcheng Experimental School jumped into the West Lake on Sunday and saved a child from drowning.

Wang Weimin, a 37-year-old science teacher for seventh graders, was strolling in Taiziwan Park along the West Lake with his wife and daughter when he saw a girl playing on the shore suddenly slip into the water.

As he was nearby, Wang dashed to try to grab the girl but failed. As the little girl couldn't swim, her panicked flapping in the water pushed her away from the bank.

Without hesitation, Wang jumped in the water and swam toward the girl, grabbing her and bringing her back to land. Both were safe.

"I often tell my students that if someone is in danger, you must try to save them. And if you are unable to do so, you should still try to help as much as you can. Never just stand there and watch," Wang said later.
