The heat is on
“Sanfu,” a Chinese term referring to the hottest part of summer, has begun and will last about 40 days until late August, the Hangzhou Meteorological Bureau said recently.
This period usually lasts from mid-July to mid-August but this year it will be longer than normal, weather authorities say.
Hangzhou recorded a high of 37.9 degrees Celsius last Thursday, making it the hottest day so far this year. The scorching weather will last at least one week, with high temperatures staying around 37 degrees until Wednesday, according to the bureau.
To help residents cope with the heat, 12 bus stations in the city have begun lending umbrellas to passengers to block the sun’s rays. People can use their ID cards to borrow the umbrellas and return them the next day.
