Theft cases
As of March 23, Hangzhou has reported 1,090 thefts this year, mostly committed on buses, streets and shops, police said last week.
Smartphones account for 80 percent of items stolen on buses, followed by wallets, according to bus company officials.
Thieves are most active on bus routes No. 4, 7, 31, 49, 67, 68, 93, 115, 179 and 326. Passengers are advised to stay vigilant on buses as spring brings more tourists to Hangzhou and crowded buses allow thieves more opportunities.
From March 11 to 20, police nabbed 23 theft suspects and detained 21 of them.
A bus driver surnamed Tang said buses on route No. 31 transport about 30,000 people a day during the peak travel season. When he spots a thief, he would yell 鈥淒on鈥檛 push!鈥 as an alert to passengers.
