Hangzhou last year received 162.87 million visitors, with a tourism revenue of 304.13 billion yuan (US$47.52 billion), a year-on-year rise of 15.84 percent and 18.26 percent respectively from 2016, according to a 2017 Hangzhou Tourism Annual Big Data Report.
West Lake Scenic Area received 28.51 million visitors in 2017, with the biggest crowd swarming into the city on October 3. And Hangzhou was the most popular Chinese tourism destination among foreign visitors after Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, according to Google.
The average age of visitors in 2017 was 29.7 years old, and 80 percent of them were born in the 1980s or younger, according to the report.
