TRAVEL agencies, sights and hotels across Hangzhou joined a promotional gala on Wushan Square yesterday, the first National Tourism Day. The gala took place from 8am to 12pm.
Nearly 100 domestic and international tourist routes were listed on sale by the 28 travel agencies at the gala. Scenic spots including Xixi National Wetland Park also offered free entrance or ticket discounts of up to 50 percent off. More than 20 high-end hotels in Hangzhou offered discounts on their rooms and restaurants.
Co-hosted by the Hangzhou Tourism Commission and tourism industry associations, the gala is part of the nationwide campaign for the first National Tourism Day. The National Tourism Day is aimed to boost China's travel industry. May 19 was chosen in honor of Xu Xiake (1587-1641), an ancient travel writer.
