Tourism up 18.5%
Hangzhou received 3.15 million visitors during the weeklong Spring Festival holiday, up 18.5 percent from a year before. Tourism revenue jumped 20.3 percent to 3.44 billion yuan year on year.
An increasing number of Hangzhou tourists spent their Chinese New Year holiday abroad, with Europe, South Korea and Australia the top three popular overseas destinations.
A stronger yuan, ease in getting a visa, and more direct flights have made European countries attractive travel destinations for locals, industry insiders said.
This winter, northeast China became a popular holiday destination thanks to a Chinese reality TV show, “Where Are We Going, Dad?”
Driving tours to neighboring cities were popular among other Hangzhou residents because highways were toll-free for the holiday.
