Traffic app available

A new app is available to help Hangzhou residents avoid traffic jams. The Real Time Traffic in Hangzhou app can be installed on iPhones and Android devices to help drivers choose routes and avoid gridlock.
The app displays a color-coded map of Hangzhou’s roads. If, for example, a section of a road is red then it means traffic is backed up. If it’s green, then traffic is smooth. The app has been developed by the city’s Traffic Research Center and the information is based on data from sensors installed on main roads and GPS devices in 10,000 taxis.
Hangzhou is the second city after Beijing to use such a system. More than 60,000 residents are using it only six months after launch.
The app should have more functions in the future, including ways to assist drivers in finding parking spaces, Hangzhou Party Secretary Gong Zheng said during a visit to the center.
Drivers and commuters can also find the service online (www.hzjtydzs.com), on radio, WeChat and on weibo.
