Traffic projects
CITY officials say Hangzhou’s traffic condition will improve once the Zizhi Tunnel, Jiubao Bridge and Donghu Expressway open in the first half of this year.
According to authorities, it will take just 15 minutes to drive from Jihong Road in the city’s northwest to Zhijiang Road in the southwest once the Zizhi Tunnel is opened. The 14.4-kilometer tunnel connects Zijingang Road and Zhipu Road.
The elevated Shixiang Road is scheduled for completion in July. This road is also expected to cut travel time between Hangzhou’s north side and Qianjiang New Town to about 15 minutes.
Meanwhile, the Jiubao Bridge and the second phase of the Donghu Expressway will cut the trip from Linping to Xiaoshan International Airport to just 25 minutes and shorten the drive from Xiaoshan to Xiasha to 30 minutes.
Hangzhou ranked 30th on a list of the world’s most congested cities, according to a survey conducted last year in 146 cities.
