Train trials to begin

TEST runs on the Hangzhou-Nanjing high-speed railway will begin next month.

The trains are expected to travel the 250-kilometer route in about one hour, however the railway operator hasn't announced the official start of operations yet.

The opening date has been delayed due to a slowdown in railway construction after a deadly train collision on July 23, 2011, in Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province. Forty people were killed in the crash. Originally the Hangzhou-Nanjing line was scheduled to open by the end of last year.

The line has five stations in Zhejiang Province and six stations in Jiangsu Province. Hangzhou East Railway Station will be the largest railway hub in Zhejiang after the route opens.

The route ends at Nanjing South Railway Station after passing stations in Guozhuang, Deqing, Huzhou and Changxing in Zhejiang Province, along with Yixing, Liyang, Wawushan, Lishui and Jiangning in Jiangsu.

Train tickets are likely to cost between 70 yuan (US$11) and 110 yuan.
