Tunnel work starts
WORK began last week on Wangjiang Road Tunnel connecting downtown Shangcheng District with Binjiang District south of the Qiantang River.
The north end of the tunnel is at the intersection of Wangjiang Road and Fuchun Road. Traffic has been diverted from the area since earlier this month.
The six-lane Fuchun Road — between Wenchao Road and Wangchao Road — has been reduced to four lanes until the end of October.
Meanwhile, the No. 119 bus route has been rerouted to avoid congestion.
The 3.2-kilometer tunnel will have four lanes and a speed limit of 60 kilometers per hour. It is due to open in 2019.
The first phase of the tunnel project is expected to be finished by the end of this year, with a second phase completed by June 2016.
