Veteran portraits

paintings of over 1,400 veterans who fought the Japanese between 1937 and 1945 are on display at the Zhejiang Art Museum through Friday. Also among these images is a picture of Norman Bethune, the Canadian army surgeon memorialized by Chairman Mao Zedong.

The exhibition is meant to mark the 70th anniversary for China’s victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. All the works were made by freshmen at the China Academy of Art.

Zhejiang Province has more than 1,500 war veterans, who are now between 85 and 103 years old.

The exhibition will move to Moscow next summer.
