Visa-free expansion

In a move aimed at boosting business and tourism, in-transit travelers from 51 countries and regions are now entitled to spend up to six days in the Yangtze River Delta region without first obtaining a visa.

According to the Ministry of Public Security, the visa-free scheme is open to foreigners arriving in Shanghai (at any port), Nanjing (Lukou International Airport) and Hangzhou (Xiaoshan International Airport). Those taking advantage of this scheme must also exit China through one of these ports.

The measure went into affect on January 30 and marks the expansion of a similar 72-hour visa-free scheme introduced in 2013.

The new policy applies to visitors from countries including: South Korea, Japan, Singapore, the United States, Russia, Britain, and Australia.
