Visa-free stays?

HANGZHOU is seeking central government approval to offer foreign travelers a 72-hour visa-free stay when transiting.

Mayor Zhang Hongming is heading a lobby group to win the same right as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Shenyang, Chongqing, Dalian and Xi’an.

The application work is expected to take about two years. Once approved, international travelers transiting in Hangzhou can stay in the city for up to three days so long as they have a visa and an air ticket for a third country.

The visa-free policy will encourage more foreigners on leisure or business travel to visit Hangzhou and prompt more airlines to increase flights to Hangzhou.
