HANGZHOU Meteorological Bureau tested an early warning system on Tuesday, sending text messages to more than 100,000 mobile phone users in three towns in Ling'an, in the west of Hangzhou.
All the mobile subscribers in the area received the test message before 10:07am. The bureau sent it out at 9:58am through the major meteorological disaster early warning system broadcasting platform.
With the platform, Hangzhou authorities can deliver early warning messages to all the mobile subscribers across the city within six hours after sending out the alarm.
And the early warning message will also be broadcast via cable TV system within 20 minutes.
Major meteorological disasters include typhoons, rainstorms and heavy snow.
