The average wedding cost in Hangzhou is around 400,000 yuan (US$65,574), excluding the cost of housing and a car, industry sources said. The cost covers wedding ceremony, banquet and photo service.
“We found through years of observation that the cost of wedding has gone up considerably in Hangzhou,” said Yu Fei of the online match-making company, hongniang.com.
The cost of buying and furnishing an apartment also jumped in recent years. Home decoration alone costs about 500,000 yuan on average. The amount of money the bridegroom gives to in-laws also went up from about 80,000 yuan to 188,000 yuan on average. Well-off families raised the amount to 588,000 yuan.
