Western extension planned

Construction of the western extension of Huancheng Road N. Tunnel will begin before the end of the year.

Huancheng Road N. Tunnel was put into use in October 2015 to connect Zhonghe Elevated Road with Qiushi Elevated Road. After completion of the new extension in 2021, the tunnel will be extended westward to Raocheng Expressway. The construction will be divided into two parts: The middle section runs from Gucui Road to Zhonghe Elevated Road, and connects with the existing Huancheng Road N. Tunnel in the east of Zhongshan Road N. The middle section is about 5 kilometers long running along Tianmushan Road.

The west section runs from Raocheng Expressway to Gucui Road, is around 6.7km long. The western extension of Huancheng Road N. Tunnel will be part of a main expressway from west of Hangzhou to Dajiangdong area in the east.

It will be more than 30km long, connecting Xianlin, Xixi Wetland, west of city, downtown, Xiasha and Dajiangdong, including a 4.5km tunnel under the Qiantang River. With a designed speed of 80km an hour, it will take around 25 minutes to commute from the east to the west of the city.
