Wi-fi hotspots on air
TWO thousand free wi-fi hotspots became operational across Hangzhou last week.
For now, users can only log onto i-hangzhou to access the web through their mobile phones, though the service will be extended to computer users next year.
By the end of next year, another 1,000 wi-fi hotspots will be operational in the city.
Each wi-fi hotspot covers an area of around 500 meters in diameter. However, the signal will be much weaker around West Lake, due to thick tree cover in the area, and on buses traveling faster than 40 kilometers per hour, say officials.
Hangzhou started the construction of a wireless city since 2007.
