Winning over expats

Hangzhou will train over 80 percent of its public service staff in English, set up at least one international university and one international hospital by 2017 as it strives to make the city more livable for foreigners.

Hangzhou plans to add two international schools with curriculum from kindergarten to high school, at least one vocational school and one international university. Currently Hangzhou has four international schools for expatriates.

Xiaoshan International Airport will add six more international routes in three years to the current 35 with international passengers totaling over 2 million by 2017.

The city aims to attract more than 150 Fortune 500 multinational companies, R&D centers or branches of international organization to the city. The Hangzhou International Expo Center and the stadium of Hangzhou Olympics Center will be completed by year end.

The city will also invite Jack Ma, founder of Alibaba Group, and famous swimmer Sun Yang to be its international image ambassadors.
