Xiaoshan Airport’s third phase

The third phase of Xiaoshan International Airport will start at the end of September.

A new terminal, a transportation center, a high-speed railway station and two Metro lines have been planned.

With a total investment of 27 billion yuan (US$4.22 billion), the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2021 and in operation in the first half of 2022, in time for the Asian Games, which is to be held between September 10 and 25.

The new Terminal 4 area of the airport will be around 690,000 square meters, or the size of 99 standard soccer fields.

The T4 will double the combined size of T1, T2 and T3 terminals.

In addition, a transport hub, covering 530,000 square meters, will be constructed in the front of T1 and T2 for Metro lines, high-speed railways, buses and taxis as well as parking lots.

A third airport runway is also in the planning stage. The construction is expected to begin in 2022 and be completed by 2025.

Xiaoshan International Airport is ranked 57th in terms of passengers using the facility and 47th in terms of cargo usage among international airports in 2017. It climbed two and three positions, respectively, from figures taken in 2016, according to the latest statistics from Airport Council International.
