Yan'an Rd to reopen

YAN'AN Road, the busiest shopping street in downtown Hangzhou, will reopen later this month after renovation that lasted 18 months.

All parking spaces will be removed from the road and bus routes adjusted. The road will have five underground passes and two overpasses.

Police said road signs in surrounding areas will not be affected.

The renovation aims to turn the 2.3-kilometer Yan'an Road into "Hangzhou's Champs-Elysees," according to the project designer.

A section of Yan'an Road was turned into a one-way street 10 years ago to improve traffic flow. However, this affected business of shopping centers and department stores along the road, as shoppers found it less convenient to get there. It will be two-way again when it reopens.
