Young business

THE second Hangzhou College Students Business-Starting Competition started on Wednesday. This year, not only college students but fresh grads who graduated after 2009 can register.

The competition offers a platform for college students to show their talent for running a business.

Boasting the highest prize of 30,000 yuan (US$4,485), the competition has already attracted support, including venture capital companies, venture parks exclusively for college graduates and other businesses which are going to offer investment or facilitation to contestants.

The aim is to turn the best proposals into real ventures in Hangzhou, says the organizing committee of the competition, because encouraging business start-ups can stimulate and expand local employment.

Organized by the Hangzhou municipal government, the seven-month-long competition gives specific support to contestant teams.

It will cover their accommodation and part of the transportation costs during the competition; the committee will also financially aid and introduce related venture capital companies and venture parks to award teams that stay and run businesses in Hangzhou.

The first competition, which was held two years ago, attracted more than 800 teams, and 28 of them have since started their companies in the city.

The deadline for enrollment is January 6, 2011.
