‘Floating cities’ ready to sail the high seas
TWO enormous international cruise liners, Sapphire Princess and Mariner of the Seas, berthed at Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal last Saturday, arriving just in time for the 2014 Shanghai Cruise Tourism Festival in Baoshan District.
Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal cost 870 million yuan (US$139.5million) and it’s set to rival Singapore and Hong Kong as the best in Asia. The Baoshan government said the terminal has received 107 cruise ships and approximately 540,000 tourists in the first half of this year. It is estimated the numbers will rise to 1.2 million travelers and 200 vessels by year end.
