Aviation service base takes flight

The Shanghai Hongqiao Aviation Service Innovation and Experiment Base was unveiled on May 29 in Changning District. The new base is the key instrument of economic transition and technological innovation for Changning, the district authority said recently.

The base comprises two main regions — an economic park and the eastern part of Hongqiao Airport.

“The modern service industry plays an increasingly important role in the district,” a government official said. “But there has been a bottleneck within the sector in the past few years. Fortunately the aviation and logistics industries have continued to rise steadily.”

Last year, tax income from the aviation and logistics industries reached 5.37 billion yuan (US$850 million), up an annualized 8.8 percent, or 17.7 percent of the district’s total tax revenue.

The two have become the anchor of the district’s service industry. Thus, the establishment of the base is intended to enhance the aviation service and logistics industries.

The Shanghai Hongqiao Aviation Service Innovation and Experiment Base has so far recruited 107 companies and organizations engaged in various services and businesses including aircraft maintenance and sales, travel services, airfreight and air ticketing services.

China Eastern Airlines, Shanghai Airport Authority, China National Aviation Fuel, Civil Aviation Administration of China’s East China Regional Administration and East China Traffic Management Bureau have already signed strategic collaboration agreements with the base.
