Bureau finds solutions to labor disputes

IN October, employees of the Lichi Business Hotel on Hongqiao Road gathered to protest at the hotel afternot being paid for two months.

Upon hearing about the action, the Changning District Human Resources and Social Security Bureau immediately set up a team to investigate.

They asked employees to remain calm over the dispute and requested the hotel to pay as soon as possible.

The hotel promised to pay all outstanding salaries, but asked for more time to get the funds.

“Considering it takes the court and commerce administration time to launch investigations, and the company wouldn’t pay in a short period of time, we started the process of giving advance payments to the 141 employees worth a total of 1.16 million yuan (US$185,600) according to relevant rules,” said Qiao Yijian from the district labor security inspection team.

Lichi had paid a back pay security deposit to the bureau.

Before this case, Changning successfully handled a back pay incident with Duogou E-commerce Company.

When the district inspection team learned that the company owed more than 5 million yuan to 245 employees, the Human Resources and Social Security Bureau launched a probe and met with the company representatives.

Eventually, 1.6 million yuan was paid by Duogou, with the bureau providing 2.6 million yuan payment, which it would get Duogou to repay.

By working with other departments, measures were taken in advance, such as sealing the warehouse and preventing management fleeing the country.

The district has seen a decrease in the number of labor disputes, and by solving the requests of the employees, fewer cases are going to arbitration.
