Commerce, culture collide at festival
HONGQIAO Culture Autumn Festival wrapped up at the end of November. The event has been a major cultural event in Changning District since 2003.
From 2010, the local government has been trying to combine culture, travel and shopping at the festival. The event also aims to boost communication between people of different countries and local residents.
This year’s event was themed “Love Changning, Love life” and touched upon various topics related to life, dance, food and travel. To strengthen bonds between business, travel and culture, the local government and several bureaus launched a series of cultural events for citizens.
More than 100 cultural activities were held during the festival, drawing an estimated 800,000 visitors.
This year’s event brought performances to communities and shopping centers, including several from foreign performers. The festival hosted special performances for migrant workers as well.
Dance was also a highlight of this year’s festival. The content of the dances embodied the styles of many different ethnic groups. Many famous dancers offered classes and lectures during the session.
The music portion of this year’s festival featured songs and performances from countries along the ancient Silk Road.
Meanwhile, since this year marked the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II, several concerts were staged featuring patriotic songs as a way to boost the people’s love for the country.
