Communities mobilize for Volunteer Day
A CORNUCOPIA of public welfare activities were held in Changning District in honor of International Volunteers Day, which fell on December 5.
The Party service center on Beixinjing Road sent its volunteers and a student delegation to Sunshine Family, a center for individuals with mental disabilities.
During the visit, they read story books and played games with some 30 exceptional children.
Volunteers from the Hongqiao area also offered photo printing service to citizens who sent photos via WeChat.
Consulting services
Workshops in the Xianxia area, along with volunteers from nearby communities and public welfare groups, organized over 20 different activities and services for citizens.
These included a lecture on finance and legal consultation services.
Meanwhile, volunteers from the Huayang area shared a story about Xue Genfa, a maintenance technician and volunteer appliance repairman who served his community for 10 years with unwavering enthusiasm.
The district’s women’s federation, together with culture officials and volunteers from the Beixinjing neighborhood, provided advice and interactive lessons on folk culture, creative handcrafts and cooking.
Nearly 100 young riders took part in the Welfare E Hour cycling activity.
About 21,000 yuan (US$3,253) was raised during the Linkong Economic Zone’s Calligraphy Contest and Charity Fair.
This money will be used to support the Disadvantage Group Caring Program of Changning, the event’s organizers said.
