Construction continues for electric bus service
TWO overpasses in Changning District are under renovation to serve the future Jiangsu Road and Kaixuan Road stations of a “medium-capacity traffic project.”
The traffic project starts at the west end of Huqingping Highway and Shenkun Road, and then extends eastward on Yan’an Road toward the Bund.
The 17.5 kilometers route will involve 25 bus stations across Shanghai in Chang-ning, Jing’an, Huangpu and Minhang districts.
Among them, 12 stations will be built in Changning. The Outer-Ring Road Station and Zhenning Road Station will be the westernmost and easternmost of the district respectively.
Fleets of green buses
A fleet of 40 18-meter-long electric buses will ride along the route initially. Each of them can carry 150 passengers.
Another 28 12-meter-long buses will offer express service to major stations. In the long term, the fleet of 18-meter buses may expand to 50 and the number of 12-meter buses will reach 36.
Construction on the project officially started on June 25. In addition to the bus lanes, it will include 13-14 kilometers of new overhead construction, new power substations and a temporary trolley garage.
The western terminal at Huqingping Highway/Shenkun Road will be located near Hongqiao Airport Terminal 2 and Hongqiao High Speed Railway Station.
The construction is expected to be completed at the end of the year and trial operation may start early next year, according to officials.
