Home medical care available for seniors
Seniors in Hongqiao, Beixinjing and Zhoujiaqiao neighborhoods in Changning District can now apply for household medical care at the community center.
The service is available for anyone 80 years old or older and is provided by professional senior medical care institutions. It includes common clinical care.
Chen Xianqin had a stroke and now stays in bed most of the time. Though his children take good care of him, they lack necessary clinical knowledge. Upon learning about the new program in Changning, Chen’s family applied immediately. A professional team has come to his home for a series of treatments that have improved his condition.
Seniors qualified for the household medical care service when meeting the age requirement (80 years old in most cases, 75 for those with serious diseases) should have health insurance and be a registered resident of Shanghai.
It costs 50 yuan (US$8) per visit with health insurance covering 80 percent of the expense.
