New center lures white collars
JIANGSU Road in Changning District is home to many high-end companies. Yet for the road’s countless office workers, off-the-clock amenities have been sadly lacking. That’s all changed thanks to a newly opened recreational center.
The Yuyuan Four Season Youth Center is a place for young white-collar types to have fun.
They can drink coffee, listen to music, watch movies, read books and create paintings.
Some energetic visitors have even learned how to do belly dancing, while some others have learned how to bake Western cakes.
The establishment of the center is the work of the Jiangsu Road community. The community has been working to improve the lives of its white-collar population.
The programs inside the center are all tailored to the hobbies and interests of nearby office workers. Since it was opened in July this year, the center has hosted more than 20 activities.
“Actually, the government side has lots of activities to offer. However, they might not grasp the needs from these white collars. The center has opened up channels for the young working class to find daily fun,” said Jiang Jiaying, a worker at the Jiangsu Road community.
Apart from efforts to cheer the young, the community has been devoting time and attention to another group — the elder.
Community managers have set up new types of centers for the old, in which programs are not merely restricted to dancing and singing, but cover a range of cultural, sports and educational topics.
Organizers say the integration of resources will benefit more people and avoid waste of public resources.
At the same time, the services and programs provided will be better suited to the actual needs of various community members.
