Polish delegation seeks deeper business, social ties in district
Jacek Karnowski, mayor of Sopot, Poland, has visited Changning with a sizeable delegation. They met District Governor Xie Feng and the deputy district governor. Also present were directors of the district’s government office, foreign affairs office, the culture bureau and greening and city appearance bureau.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the signing of the Preliminary Agreement for Friendly Exchange between Changning and Sopot. As such, the delegation visited the bronze statue of Polish musician Chopin in Zhongshan Park, Shanghai Cohesive Force Building Museum and Changning District Planning Showroom.
Karnowski said he was impressed with Shanghai’s growth in recent years and thanked district officials for helping strengthen Sino-Polish friendship and promoting Polish culture.
The mayor hopes that starting next year, both Sopot’s Forest Theater back in Poland and Chopin’s Bronze Statue Square in Zhongshan Park will become iconic venues for music performances in their respective cities. Meanwhile, there will be regular exchanges of art groups to enrich the lives of residents in both places.
In addition, Karnowski said that more business projects would be launched to go along with more collaboration in architectural planning and social exchanges.
“With more collaboration, hopefully, the locals in Changning can appreciate Poland’s divine art and culture,” Xie said. “Also more Polish people will learn of China’s speedy development.”
