Road projects designed to ease traffic

A 1.7-kilometer road tunnel underneath Beidi Road in Changning District is under construction and is expected to ease congestions between the Middle Ring Road and the Outer Ring Road. The two-way, six-lane road tunnel will pass under Xiehe Road, Fuquan Road, Songhong Road, Pingtang Road and Jianhe Road from west to east. Construction is scheduled to finish by the end of 2017.
Meanwhile, workers are building new ramps to connect Beihong Road Overpass and the Middle Ring Road. The existing ramps that join with Shangzhong Road Tunnel will be demolished as a result.
Xianxia Road W., between Qingxi Road and Weining Road, will be widened from four lanes to six lanes. Beiyu Road, between Beidi Road and Tianshan Road W., will also be widened four lanes to six lanes, officials in charge of urban infrastructure said.
