Spotlight on new art center
AT the site of the former Tianshan Cinema, the new Hongqiao Art Center is ready to start trial operations.
The new center, which is more than three-times larger than the cinema it replaces, is an amusement complex built for stage performances, film screenings and a variety of other shows and events.
During the three years spent on its construction, environmentally-friendly building materials and Chinese elements were incorporated into the design of the low-profile grey structure.
Inside, abundant use of brown serpeggiante marble gives the main hall a bright and clean look. Designed by Australian firm Brearley Architects & Urbanists, the interior draws inspiration from Chinese paper folding and Peking Opera masks.
The building’s centerpiece is a 1,001-seat theater. Its lighting system, hi-fi equipment and stage all feature the most advanced technologies, making it an ideal place to host all sorts of performances; including musical dramas, stage plays, concerts, traditional operas and even variety shows.
This state-of-the-art theater is the first of its kind to open in Changning, and one that will surely become a landmark for the district.
But as this new center also represents the rebirth of the former Tianshan Cinema, movie playing is definitely one of its key functions.
The new building includes seven auditoriums with a total of 929 seats. There is even a special 4D auditorium, where the theater cooperates with a domestic studio to convert blockbuster films into 4D format.
Another auditorium is equipped with the latest audio-visual equipment, including a 3D-enabled 4K projection and surround-sound system.
In the VIP auditorium, there are dozens of electronic motion recliner sofas as well as coffee and meal service to make the movie-watching experience more enjoyable.
Anyone who books this auditorium can expect an unforgettable experience with family members and friends. The big screen and audio system in the VIP room also supports video conferencing, distance education, or even live karaoke shows.
The other three auditoriums in the center all supports 3D digital movie projection.
To accommodate both play audiences and movie-watchers, designers employed a “non-interference” strategy. Each audience group will have its own entrances and escalators, while sound-proofing is also used to prevent performances from disturbing each other.
The art center has 3,466 square meters of underground garage space, and 50 parking spots.
The center is located at 888 Tianshan Road, at the intersection of Tianshan Road and Loushanguan Road, a prime location in the Hongqiao business circle. The facility is expected to complement the surrounding commercial facilities, while also satisfy the cultural demands of nearby residents and office workers.
