Successful crackdown on illegal fireworks
CHANGNING police seized 85 boxes of fireworks and firecrackers illegally stored at an alcohol and tobacco shop on Songhong Road recently. Following clues, they also seized 209 boxes of fireworks and firecrackers in a suburban warehouse.
Public security police, firefighters and special police patrolled the area around Songhong Road at about 7:00pm on January 20 after receiving tip-offs from citizens.
A floor mirror at the upstairs of an alcohol and tobacco shop raised police’s suspicion. Police found a secret door after moving the mirror.
The door turned out to be a well-designed and electronically controlled and lead to a small warehouse. A large amount of illegally stored fireworks and firecrackers were inside the room.
Police confiscated a total of 85 boxes of fireworks and firecrackers. Two suspects confessed and gave information about their supply chain in a trial.
Following the clues, Chang-ning police have arrested two suspects, Pan and Liu, in Xinghua County of Shanghai’s neighboring Jiangsu Province, where they seized 209 boxes of fireworks and firecrackers at a storehouse outside a neighborhood in suburban Shanghai.
The suspects have been detained and the case is now under further investigation.
Changning District has banned fireworks and firecrackers. Citizens who ignore the rule and let off fireworks and firecrackers will be stopped by the police.
