THE 1st Jiading Dragon Boat Race Competition was held at Chenjiashan Park on June 10. Twelve teams of more than 300 athletes from different towns and communities joined the 250-meter-long race in Hengli River. Juyuan District, Anting Town and Zhenxin Sub-district won the competition. Dragon boat racing is a traditional sport and Jiading hosts such competitions annually.
Expo events
Expo Shanghai 2010 celebrated the Portugal National Pavilion Day on June 5 and 150 Jiading residents attended the ceremony. Earlier, 200 people from Malu Town were invited to a ceremony and gala show on the Montenegro National Pavilion Day.
Plant festival
ONE of the 20 theme activities of Expo Shanghai, the Shanghai Bamboo and Lotus Art Festival, is scheduled to be held from June 18 to October 31 at Guyi Garden, Nanxiang Town. Different species of bamboo, lotus and Expo concept potted landscapes will be displayed and cultural activities held.
Farmer art
THE 1st Chinese Farmer's Art Festival was opened in Beijing on June 16, 2010. Jiading Xuxing straw weaving was invited to the exhibition as a national intangible cultural heritage. More than 80 amazing pieces of straw weaving product were on show during the festival.
Popular museum
SHANGHAI Auto Museum has became one of the 138 popular science bases named by Chinese Association of Science and Technology during the period of 2010 to 2014. The museum has received over 100,000 visitors in three years.
Culture days
JUNE 12 was the 5th Chinese Cultural Heritage Day with the theme of "Cultural Heritage Around Me". On June 10, the "Looking for Relics Around Me ? Jiading Students' Drawing and Photography Exhibition" was held at Jiading Confucius Temple, and 43 works were presented by primary and middle school students.
Ticket gifts
JUYUAN New District has donated 100 Expo tickets to 50 kids from poor families and fulfilled their wishes to visit the Expo. The money came from a fund named "Special Teaching Assistance."
Hand copier
NANXIANG resident Wang Dayou spent 10 years copying "A Dream in Red Mansions" in small regular script. The hand-written copy consists of 120 books, one for each chapter. Wang spent 2 hours every day writing the book during the past 10 years and hopes it can be kept for the younger generation.
Return bus
Jiading residents can take an evening return bus on Expo Line 10 since June 7. The three bus stops in Jiading are Tacheng Road, Bole Road and South Bole Road.
