46 foreigners honored at Magnolia Award ceremony


Forty-six foreigners were presented with the Shanghai Magnolia Award for their outstanding contributions to the city at Xijiao State Guest Hotel on September 9.

The award, named after Shanghai's city flower, is an honor bestowed on foreigners who have made significant contributions to the city economy, business environment, international relations, community development and management standards. Among them were Frank Engel, general manager of Shanghai Volkswagen Powertrain Co Ltd, and Nancy S. Gougarty, president of Asian-Pacific region of TRW Automotive. Both are working in Jiading.

To date, altogether 16 expats working in Jiading District have been honored by the Shanghai government. Among them, 14 are business leaders from joint ventures or foreign-owned companies. They have showcased strong ability in management, helped their enterprises develop rapidly and contributed to the economic development of Jiading. Shibatani Mitsunari, mayor of Yao City, Osaka, was also awarded because of his support in building inter-city friendship with Jiading.

The Shanghai Magnolia Award was established in 1989, the total number of the awards is over 1,000 till now for the whole city.
