9 scenic spots to be ready by year end
NINE waterside scenic spots stretching a combined length of 3 kilometers will be completed in the Jiading District within the year.
Seven already have been opened to the public. Two waterside platforms in Chengjiashan Park have attracted hundreds of local residents every day since they were completed.
Sun Mingsheng, a Jiading local resident, said he walks along the waterside to get to the supermarket, even though the trip is a little longer, because it's so pleasant.
Gu Jianbo, who lives at Juyuan Community, brings a six-year-old son to play by the waterside platform. The child is captivated by the beautiful views, Gu says, and is reluctant to leave.
The district has invested 1.7 million yuan (US$252,108) on a lighting system for the park, according to Hou Jianming, general manager of Shanghai Beishuiwan Investment Development Co Ltd. When completed, the system will include 180 wave-shaped lamps shining on the water, in addition to 4.8-meter-high landscape lighting.
The waterside platform at Xuhang Town is the smallest project of the nine, stretching a length of 150 meters. Small it may be, but that doesn't diminish its charm. It includes park benches and carefully tended lawn squares.
According to an official surnamed Wang from Xuhang Town, the site was once occupied by a small factory and some illegal buildings, which were all removed.
Chen Xiangfu, an older man living at Malu Town, said he is very happy that his house is near a waterside platform, giving him a scenic landscape.
Villagers have embraced the new sites with pride. No litter is in sight. "Everybody wants to contribute to the beauty of the waterside views,'' said Yang Xiujuan, a cleaner.
