XI Xiaowei and his wife Xu Xiaohong, who live in a residential community in Jiading Industrial Zone, had the good sense to put up a poster that told neighbors the schedule of their home decoration work.
It also expressed their apologies for any disturbance that might be caused as a result.
The couple also guaranteed that noisy work would only be carried out during working hours on weekdays while all the rubbish produced would be disposed of properly within the community.
Neighbors were pleased when they read it.
“We are glad to have such kind neighbors. They really care about the feelings of other people and make themselves an example to follow,” said fellow resident Jiang Yingying.
Since work began in May, there had been no complaints, said Xu Lili, the community’s Party Secretary.
The couple have a restaurant at the intersection of Chengzhong Road and Meiyuan Road.
They moved to their current residence early this year although they bought it a couple of years ago.
“We were afraid of disturbing our neighbors as we moved in after everybody else and had to do the decoration with them living in the building. That’s why we put up the poster. We hoped to get everyone’s understanding,” Xu Xiaohong said.
Conflicts triggered by thoughtless home decoration are nothing new these days. On some occasions, the parties involved even refer their disputes to the court and since then seldom talk to each other as they used to do.
Xu Lili said that she had received four complaints last month and all of them were about home decoration work — though none about the couple who had thought to put up the poster.
As a veteran community worker with more than a decade of experience, she thinks that more good neighbors like Xi and Xu would make property management a lot easier.
