A wealth of options for spring day trippers

WEATHER will start to warm up after the Lantern Festival. Jiading offers some lovely outings for visitors. Here's a rundown of the best sight-seeing options in the district for a day trip in the spring.
Strolls in old streets
Nanxiang Old Street in Nanxiang Town, Zhouqiao Old Street in Jiading Town and Anting Old Street in Anting Town still have a Spring Festival atmosphere with red lanterns hung high and colored flags flying in the sky. Delicious food including Nanxiang xiaolongbao, or steamed buns, and tangyuan, or rice dumplings, are highly recommended. You can also step onto the second floor of the old building and listen to pingtan, a traditional form of storytelling performance in local dialect.

Pear blossoms
Lijiang Orchard in Jiading Industrial Zone is somewhat of a paradise. When spring comes, peach and pear blossoms and rape flowers are in full bloom. Visitors can take fresh air here and also brew rice wine and buy swelled candy rice.

Car culture festival
The Shanghai Auto Culture Festival will showcase all things related to the automobile. Formula One, the world's most prestigious series of car races, drops by every year in Jiading, which hosts the Chinese Grand Prix.

Flowering wisteria
With all kinds of bluish wisteria flowers, which seem like waterfall pouring from the top of the trees, Jiading Wisteria Park is very popular in the spring.

Cherry fruit
Each May, more than 1,000 cherry trees bear fruit in Baiguo Garden of Juyuan New Area. Visitors can pick their own and bring them home to bake delicious cherry pies.

Blossoming peoniesGuyi Garden in Nanxiang Town draws many visitors with its beautiful and fragrant peony flowers. The park features more than 2,000 peonies from China and overseas.

Dragon boat races
During the Dragon Boat Festival this year, Jiading will host dragon boat race in the Hengli River.
