Adding value as transformation speeds up
JIADING District’s industrial output reached 128 billion yuan (US$20 billion) in the first three months of this year, topping all the districts in Shanghai, thanks to the acceleration of industrial transformation.
It is a jump of 40 billion yuan, or 10 percent, compared with the same period of last year.
Of the total industrial output, the auto components sector contributed 40 billion yuan, up 15 percent year on year.
Sales of commodities rose 26 percent to 41 billion yuan. And the sales of e-commerce giants reached 8 billion yuan, up 55 percent.
The sales of JD.com, China’s leading online shopping mall that is based in Jiading, soared nearly 60 percent year-on-year.
The retail sector saw robust business with the opening of more shopping malls. Existing shopping centers including Wanda Plaza, Jiatinghui, Zhongye Xiangteng and Robinson fetched in 710 million yuan, up 29 percent from same period last year.
The sales of 21 car 4s retailers rose 13 percent to 1.67 billion yuan.
Only the hotel and catering industry saw a decline of 18 percent to 560 million yuan due to the country’s frugality campaign.
In the first quarter, Jiading introduced 89 equity investment and management companies, increasing the district’s venture capital investment funds to over 900.
Twelve loan companies for small enterprises issued 352 loans of 1.129 billion yuan, while three financing guarantee institutions added 63 million yuan.
Jiading attracted US$250 million in contractual foreign investment from January to March, with US$210 million already transferred to the district.
The district has attracted 41 headquarters of foreign companies with contractual investment of US$729 million. In January and February, Jiading’s imports and exports reached US$3.38 billion, rising 10 percent year on year.
