All aboard the Spring Festival express

NO matter how expensive or crowded it is to go home for the Spring Festive, reuniting with family makes it all worthwhile.

Xiao Guo, an Anhui native working in Jiading District, misses his family. He came to Shanghai five years ago. Over that period he has learned to control his emotions better. Now a phone call to his family makes him feel better.

Xiao Guo recently married and he plans to make as much money as he can in Shanghai so that he can afford to build a house and pay for a university education for his child.

Xiao Guo has worked hard for the whole year, and his biggest hope is to spend Spring Festival with family. But he also suffers a lot from traveling every year as "the difficulties to get a ticket bring him painful happiness."

Many migrant workers in Shanghai come from rural areas in other provinces. In their villages, the Spring Festival celebrations can be more intimate and rewarding than those in the cities.

Migrant worker Jiajia, who comes from Henan Province, says her hometown is full of festivity. Everyone will set off firecrackers during the Spring Festival. If one family begins first, the whole village will immediately become a paradise of colorful firecrackers. Children and adults laugh and this kind of happiness can never be bought with money, but only be brought by the reunion of the family.

This is why so many people try to spend Spring Festival with family despite the travel frustrations.
