Arboretum goes big on flavor

WITH the introduction of spices such as Japanese spearmint, lavender mint and marjoram, the Shanghai Apple Flavor & Fragrance Xuhang Arboretum now boasts more than 50 kinds of flavorings.
Rosemary planting is now well progressed.
The arboretum is located at Fuhu Village in Jiading District's Xuhang Town. With a total area of 66 hectares, its first phase of 16.53 hectares has been established with a budget of more than 10 million yuan (US$1.46 million).
The arboretum will build up an industrial chain of crude spices from plantation, proliferation, to product research and development in three to five years.
According to the plan, the arboretum will be divided into seven areas 掳??? planting, demonstration for scientific research, central waters, processing, production management, country villas, periphery protection woods and sightseeing corridors.
