Artist conveys passion in a few strokes

The paintings of Jiading artist Chen Bubing usually don’t have many strokes. However, their elegant structure and rich content still lend a vigorous effect to his work.

His feelings and passion for life shine through, and what strokes there are have a strong structure and plentiful detail.

Chen also pays a lot of attention to the layout of his paintings. In recent years, he has learned from impressionism and integrated it with modern realism and the rules of “light and shadow” in oil painting to improve the artistic effect.

His work “Mountain in The Dream” perfectly displays his outstanding knowledge of art and his skill. The mountain in the painting is just as it exists in one’s imagination, while the rocks, the river and the boat on it look quite harmonious with the trees and grass on the bank. It’s a perfect combination of impressionism and realism.

Another feature of Chen’s paintings is the coherence of the strokes. Even if the painting has taken him days or months, it still looks as if it was painted without stopping. It’s an effect achieved based on his understanding of the strokes and colors in Chinese painting.

In recent years, his paintings have won various awards and enhanced his reputation among fellow artists and critics. However, these honors don’t affect his calmness in his creation.

He still sits in his house on the riverbank, paints his mountains and trees and drinks his tea, like a hermit isolated from the outside world.
