Auto parts industry continues to drive growth in district
OCBC Bank (China) Ltd opened its Jiading branch recently.
Unlike most banks, which locate in downtown areas and business centers, it is located in the district's industrial zone amongst a cluster of enterprises.
Leong Wai Leng, chairman of OCBC Bank (China), said the bank sees a bright future for the auto parts industry.
"Jiading boasts a sound economic environment for the industry," Leong said. "Therefore, we are confident about Jiading's prospect and its construction of an auto-dominated industry chain."
Last month, Waigang Town signed a contract with East China Spare Parts Center of FAW-VW Automobile Co Ltd. The contract was designed to serve clients in the Yangtze Delta region and reduce logistics costs.
Meanwhile, Shanghai Brose Automotive Components Co Ltd opened a new factory at Shanghai International Automobile City in the district's Auto Parts Industrial Zone.
Brose is a German brand that lists among the world's leading auto parts suppliers. One of every three cars in the world uses Brose's electromechanical integration products.
Shanghai Brose Automotive Components Co Ltd mainly manufactures a door system for brands such as Shanghai Volkswagen, FAW-VW Automobile Co, Ltd and Chang'an Ford.
Jiading's improved environment for auto parts business, exhibitions, information, e-commerce, quality attestation, education and training, as well as finance and international trade has a lot to do with these companies chosing to locate in the district.
Thus far, 333 enterprises have set up at Shanghai International Automobile City Auto Parts Industrial Zone, which is eight square kilometers. The total investment exceeds 32 billion yuan (US$4.7 billion).
Among them, 282 enterprises have started operation, of which 70 percent are auto parts companies.
Fourteen of the 282 enterprises are among the world's top 500 companies.
The zone has become a major domestic auto parts base featuring an industry chain of doors, auto chassis systems, electrical systems, security systems and interior decoration systems.
To connect products to the market, an auto parts trade center has been proposed.
According to the plan, a transnational auto parts purchasing center, trade center and pricing center will be built.
By 2012, its trade volume is estimated to reach 20 billion yuan each year.
