Auto sales gear down to a reasonable speed

AUTOMOBILE sales in the first half year of 2012 in Jiading District grew at a slower pace year on year, but the market is shifting toward a reasonable growth pace.

Car manufacturers have been busy launching new models, expanding their sales network, while the car dealers providing large discounts to attract buyers and boost sales.

Several Jiading auto dealers, including Jia'an Auto Sales Co, Xietong Toyota Auto Sales Co Ltd and West Shanghai Auto Sales Co reported 10 percent annual sales growth in the first half.

An official with West Shanghai Auto Sales commented that demand for automobiles is still strong in Jiading and the market is far from saturated. New models and large discounts have pushed up sales, he explained.

Luxury car brands like BMW and Mercedes Benz are cutting prices to boost sales, according to an employee with a 4S dealership for Mercedes in Jiading's Jiangqiao area.

The discount of a luxury vehicle costing 1 million yuan (US$ 156,866) equals to the value of a low-equipped vehicle and some small-engine models of luxury cars are also lowering prices, leading to a more than 20 percent sales increase.

A series of stimulus measures like subsidies for low-emission vehicles and old-for-new trade-in policies are implemented, in a bid to push up sales of automobiles in the second half in Jiading, according to an official from Xietong Toyota Auto Sales.

Industry watchers said more potential car buyers are likely to consider buying a car in the second half of the year as the car license plate price finally dropped in June after rising for seven months while vendors are boosting sales by offering discounts.
