Auto sector growth stronger

INDUSTRY planning, infrastructure construction and implementation of plans for a manufacturing center for new-energy vehicles and key auto parts have been developed recently in Jiading District.

Construction will soon start on five new roads and two distribution substations at the center.

Also, substantial progress has been made with the signing of several new-energy vehicle and auto parts projects.

Shanghai Automobile Driving Co Ltd's new-energy vehicles project has passed assessment and is progressing through registration process. It involves a total investment of 200 million yuan (US$29.29 million). Other projects by Shanghai Ruihua (Group) Co Ltd, Huaxiang Electronic Co Ltd and Chery Automobile will be kicked off within the year.

Before Spring Festival, four of China's auto industry organizations and associations set up a joint office at the district's Shanghai International Automobile City, one of the year's most important auto industry developments.

China's auto sector is currently experiencing highly competitive conditions with cities such as Beijing, Changchun, Wuhan, Guangzhou and Chongqing all strong but Shanghai is the most competitive.

Shao Qihui, council chairman of China Auto Professionals Society, believes that Jiading has the potential and strength to become a pioneer.

Dong Yanghao, secretary-general of China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, said Jiading is an ideal place which is why the four organizations decided to settle here.

After trying for almost a decade, Shanghai International Automobile City now boasts the first wind tunnel center for ground transport vehicles, a national automobile inspection center and a state-level auto and spare parts export base, an industrial base for new energy vehicles and key auto parts and an innovation base for high-end overseas professionals.

The district has implemented a series of supportive policies to attract more overseas professionals to devote to research on new-energy vehicles and their production.
