Award winners keep performances 'close to life'

WINNERS for outstanding creation and performance were announced during the closing ceremony of the community cultural performance month called "Grassroots Big Stage."

The Jiading District cultural administration encouraged artists to learn from grassroots people and create art works close to people. As a result, this year's performance month had a new vitality.

A primary school student, a community worker, a company manager, a university student and a community health care professional from Juyuan New Area gathered together and formed a "Star" chorus group. They won the outstanding creation award in the final of the "Grassroots Big Stage." Their performance proved to be deeply moving, winning the hearts of residents.

There are 20 volunteer art groups in Juyuan New Area. They performed nearly 100 times for nearly 80,000 people.

In order to help them, Juyuan New Area invited professional teachers from Shanghai Opera House to give them guidance at least three times a week. Most of the 37 performances for the community cultural performance month were created and performed by local residents.

"Our Stage," the chorus group of Xincheng Road Subdistrict, won an outstanding creation award and was the last to perform at the closing ceremony. The secret of their success is that they stick close to the normal life of residents, according to singer Guan Wei. In recent years, 13 art groups from Xincheng Road Subdistrict created more than 150 programs. Their works focus on the friendship in the neighbourhood, mediation of disputes and love for elders. Next year, the subdistrict plans to encourage them to create new programs focusing on hot topics such as garbage sorting and help each other in groups.

Nanxiang Town prepared a music drama about a love story of Nanxiang xiaolong (little steamed buns), attracting a great deal of curiosity. With more forms of entertainment, audiences are becoming more sophisticated, which means more diversified shows are needed. "The programs next year will be more splendid," district cultural center officials said, adding that the programs will focus on daily life and social problems.
